New for 2011 is the latest in the Emirates’ long line of firsts. Sunset polo, a concept that moves the action on the field effortlessly from day to night, launches in Dubai on the eve of the Dubai World Cup.
Traditionally Desert Palm, home of Dubai Polo
Club and the Emirates’ flagship international high-goal squad - Dubai Polo
Team, has hosted a polo event on the eve of the world’s richest race. For 2011,
with the Cartier International Dubai Polo Challenge having moved to an earlier
February slot, Equestrio, in association with Desert Palm, is launching ‘sunset
polo’ in the region. Premiering in the Middle East on the eve of the Dubai
World Cup with AES International as title sponsors, sunset polo is the
brainchild of Peter McCormack who has successfully developed the concept in the
UK. The format moves the sport from an afternoon occasion to an evening event,
adding, if such a thing is possible, even more edgy glamour to the sport of
kings.
“The
opportunity to sponsor the World Cup Sunset Polo coincides perfectly with the
opening of our new Middle East Headquarters in Emaar Square, Dubai”, said AES
CEO, Sam Instone. “We are hugely passionate about knowledge, training, teamwork
and performance. These virtues are in abundance within a polo team and the
opportunity for us to celebrate our arrival in Dubai in such a perfect
surrounding is incredible.”
Set to become an annual event, the inaugural
World Cup Sunset Polo begins on 22nd March at Desert Palm with the
final on Friday 25th March followed by a lavish After Party that’s set
to be a highlight of Dubai’s most social week of the year.
Matches start at 3.30pm each day. For more
